Frenectomy

Frenectomy is the removal of excess soft tissue (mucosa) between the lips, tongue, gum and teeth.

Excess soft tissue between the teeth often creates a gap which can contribute to poor or abnormal movement of the jaw. If required, an orthodontist will refer a patient to have this excess tissue removed to help close the gap and improve movement.

New born babies or young infants that have excess mucosa below the tongue, a condition known as tongue tie, often exhibit difficulties with breast feeding. Removal of this, normally under local anaesthetic, improves this condition for the child.

Mr Kumar is often referred patients for this procedure especially in relation to tongue tie release in babies or infants.
